Hewlett-Packard is a vast company that makes, amongst other things, a range of laser and inkjet printers. Rather like Hayes, Hewlett-Packard developed a series of commands that would allow any application to control any of its range of printers. This set of commands, or language, is called HP-PCL and it is built into all the LaserJet and DeskJet printers. If you buy a printer that is LaserJet-compatible and your software does not directly support this particular printer, set the software to HP LaserJet mode and it should work just fine.
